Specialist growers of hardy herbaceous perennials

The site

The site as it used to look

Before

We have transformed a semi-derelict field into a nursery; as you can see from the photo here, when we moved in we inherited little more than Ragwort (although in fact, the photo is misleading - there was also a healthy selection of brambles, nettles, bindweed, and a wide selection of more or less rusty bits of fence, barbed wire, and ageing farm equipment).

Thankfully, the weeds have now gone, and we have replaced them with a selection of polytunnels, sales and standing out areas for our plants.

The shade tunnel

Not just for shade loving plants, this very useful structure helps many of our plants withstand the heat of high summer.

Sales area

Note the rabbit-proof fencing - installed at great expense, but entirely unnecessarily - our dog and cat are much better pest deterents than any amount of wire mesh! Now supplemented with a much larger sales area (but we haven't got a picture of that yet!)

The multi-span

New in 2002, installed to cope with increasing sales volumes; used mostly for propagated stock prior to final potting.

Our first "big" tunnel, here shown in early spring with the first batch of (recently planted) hanging baskets, and newly-potted herbaceous plants lined out on the floor.
